Langaran River

The Langaran River

Langaran River is located in the northeastern part of Mt. Malindang, Misamis Occidental, a mountain range that became a National Park in 1971 by virtue of Republic Act No. 6266. In that area, as stated, you can see also Mt. Malindang and the Langaran River. The river plays a vital role in the economy of the surrounding municipalities.  Aside from being the domestic abode of many communities, vast farmers are dependent on the irrigation waters from the three dams built along it. Rivers like this plays an important role in the ecosystem. Not just a home for underwater species but also as a source of water for the plants since farming is the primary occupation.

Mt. Malindang
Unfortunately, only the Republic Act No. 6266 was the only law protecting it though that law was really for the mountain of Malindang. Beside of the law being imposed, some residents still abuse it. Cutting of trees continue and there is no visible effort to sustain the remaining biodiversity and to rehabilitate the degraded parts. In contrast, the riparians downstream are already degraded and the waters are already    poor. The high pressure from agricultural activities continues to threaten the state of biodiversity and the environment.

Langaran River

For the list of animals found in that area, it wasn't really found in the   river itself but on the mountain range. Lack on information for the underwater species.
Philippine Eagle
Rufous Hornbill
Tarsier
Flying Lemur
Philippine Deer
Long-tailed Macaque
Asian Palm Civet
Philippine Hawk-eagle
Water monitor lizard
Philippine warty pig
Philippine hanging parakeet

Conclusion

Wetlands were the same in being a bodies of water but differs in form. Some are classified as marsch, river, lake, bay etc. That is why they are different species of animals residing in different wetlands.
The significance of Langaran River to the ecological system in the said area is that it serves as a habitat for many underwater species. It also serves as a irrigation system for the plants not just in the farm but also on the plants on Mt. Malindang. If this weren't in the mountain range, plants and tree out there will not survive longer. If plants there dies, animals won't have anything to eat. See, wetlands plays an important role in the ecosystem.
It is very important that is why it must be protected carefully. Wetlands serves as a habitat for many kind of species. If it was destroyed, we eliminate a very crucial part in the system and becomes a cause of other species to cease to exist.
As a resident in the area, first of all, i won't abuse the benefit that the river gives. "Slow and Smart". Follow the law on conservation of Wetlands. We, too, are the one who benefit from it. Take care of it so these wetlands can still be a blessing to the next generation. Through these action, we only not help ourselves but the whole ecosystem.

  1. After reading this blog post, i have learned that wetlands are very significant and plays an important role in the ecosystem. Without wetlands, there will be no habitat for many underwater species. We should protect and take care of our wetlands to save also our endangered species.
